Services and Eligibility

The Major Project Facilitation Agency:

    • Provides a range of facilitation and information services related to major project regulatory and approval obligations,

    • Delivers the Major Project Facilitation Programme to eligible projects, and

    • Provides an online help tool, Major Projects Help, to assist project proponents in working out which Australian Government regulatory approvals and process they may need to consider for their project.

Eligibility is based on levels of investment:

    • Projects valued at $50 million or more are automatically eligible for all of the Agency’s services, plus the Major Project Facilitation Programme if they meet additional criteria

    • Projects between $20 million and $50 million are eligible for all of the Agency’s services, except the Major Project Facilitation Programme

    • All project stakeholders are eligible to use the online tool

The Agency can also assist projects that fall below this threshold and recognises that these projects can offer significant economic benefits and employment opportunities in local areas. Please contact us to find out if your project is eligible.

All Agency services are free of charge for eligible projects and carry no obligations.

Facilitation and Information

The Agency works with individual project proponents to identify and tailor a range of short, medium or long-term services relevant for their specific project.

Services can range from connecting proponents directly with regulators, collaborating across all levels of government to clarify a project’s regulatory pathway, facilitating meetings with Commonwealth regulatory agencies, and identifying opportunities to provide clarity of the regulatory approval process.

Major Project Facilitation Programme

The Major Project Facilitation Programme provides services to suitable major investment projects that meet the programmes eligibility criteria.

The programme normally provides services for a period of three years with the opportunity to re-apply for renewal where appropriate. Projects would therefore normally be expected to be suitably developed to complete the approvals process within this three year period.

Projects that are assessed as being eligible for the Major Project Facilitation Programme will receive:

    • Written documentation from the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science conferring eligibility for the programmes services

    • An initial and ongoing contact point in the Australian Government

    • Access to the full range of facilitation and information services offered by the Major Projects Facilitation Agency

    • Referrals

    • Contact with relevant Australian Government agencies for various assistance programmes.

General information

The Agency also provides general regulatory information to proponents, as well as any other interested parties, on an ad hoc basis. If the Agency isn’t able to answer your question straight away it will work with the relevant Commonwealth regulator or other levels of government to obtain a response as quickly as possible.
